RUPAL - VARADAAYINI MANDIR

The Varadaayini Mahatmya, one of the sthalapuranas of immense eminence brings out glory of this archamurti Varadayani. This legend is inscribed on the temple walls also. She is a powerful goddess and relieved the entire devaganas when tortured by one ferocious demon called Durmad. The legend is quite fascinating that embodies interesting episodes relating to the avatara purushas of the three yugas - Treta, Dwapara and Kaliyuga.

The Chaturbhuja icon of the presiding deity is made of White stone and its craftsmanship elevates the souls at first sight itself. The devotees who visit this mandir regularly, are drawn from far off states. During the annual festivals lakhs of persons visit and participate in several devotional activities with great religious zeal. Melas held then last for weeks and turn this into Bhulokswarga. As its antiquity dates back to Tretayuga and the emancipation the Devi preferred on many, a few anecdotes are quite expedient now.
