UCHAITHA - DURGA TEMPLE

Before the installation, the Mother appearing before him in dream said, "I am the creator and do you want to create my head. Do you think it proper for you to create my head". Thoroughly upset as he was, he called for the Mahanta of the temple, who meetings him told the same bidding he had in his dream. So they decided to place the newly sculptured head near the image. How grand!... Now daily puja and devotional activities are being carried on to the mutilated form of Durga only.

In the recent times many more shrines emerged in its proximity, like one for Siva and another, Bhairava. These too received renovation later. Now it is a simple, yet sublimes temple built in the Indo-Aryan style with curvilinear tower. It is visited by devotees everyday and regular puja is offered with great veneration On the other side of the tank, there is still a site called reverentially Kalidaska Chaupadi which means the college of Kalidasa. and it is derived from Sanskrit word Chatushpathi denoting a place where the four Vedas are read and taught. An apt name! A befitting honour! An unostentatious memorial!!!

Among the periodical festivals, Vijayadasami is celebrate on a grand scale, when huge crowds congregate to offer special prayers. A big mesa also is held lasting for davas. It is star - attraction.

It is accessible from Benipath by rickshaws and four wheelers.
