Kusinagar
is a world famous Buddhist centre, where Lord Buddha, the Light of Asia breathed
his last and hence many monuments of stupendous dimensions and unequalled in
religious significance are existing drawing theists of all kinds It was once a
thick forest infested with wild animals. After the mahaniryana of Buddha, the
forest was cleared and religious and secular institutions are founded. Many
places, of worship sprouted and they gradually established their sway over devotees.
Among them Koolkulya Devi temple deserve reverent mention. She is called Kulya Devi because
the temple is built on a small Kulya, means a rivulet. The
forest is fitting called kulyasthan. The Devi is very powerful and popular as
she fulfils the aspirations of her devotees without a reservation whatsoever of any
kind.
She has some other preferences and gets them materialised by the dedication of her
votaries. She expressed her wish of residing confined to four walls with a
difference must be a roofless mandir.
