Kusinagar is a world famous Buddhist centre, where Lord Buddha, the Light of Asia breathed his last and hence many monuments of stupendous dimensions and unequalled in religious significance are existing drawing theists of all kinds It was once a thick forest infested with wild animals. After the mahaniryana of Buddha, the forest was cleared and religious and secular institutions are founded. Many places, of worship sprouted and they gradually established their sway over devotees. Among them Koolkulya Devi temple deserve reverent mention. She is called Kulya Devi because the temple is built on a small Kulya, means a rivulet. The forest is fitting called kulyasthan. The Devi is very powerful and popular as she fulfils the aspirations of her devotees without a reservation whatsoever of any kind.
