Himachal
Pradesh has been rightly described as Gods own - country populated with simple
hill folk known for deep faith in divinities of all denominations as it were.
Their sublime faith finds fullest expression during festivals celebrated round
the years particularly Dasara festival lasting for a week when gods and goddess
are brought from several places to Raghunathji temple. Among the less publicized, but very famous and ancient temples, Devi Jagannathi temple merits
mention. It is built over a steep ridge near Kullu town. Due to its high
eminence, it offers a panoramic view of the whole sprawling hilly tract
heightened by the tall deodar trees and vast stretches of lush green forests. It
is indeed a picknickers delightful resort tranquil in its setting Though it, is
a steep uphill climb, it is found to be a delightful experience for, the
goddess in her unostentatious temple fills the souls of her worshippers with
bliss. The whole town comes into view from this point and so the visitors stay
for long feasting their-eyes. Daily worship is offered with due devotion. The
priest says Mata Jagannathi is quite solicitous to her adored and hence frequent
visits. She is ranked very high and august among several goddesses worshipped in
the Kullu Valley. Its nearness to Kullu town is its additional plus point for
frequent visits.
It is 3 km off
Kullu town, accessible by walk.
