The
reverent word Renuka conjures up many awe-some spectacles associated with the
life of Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Mahavishnu. It is said that in
this region lived the sage and at his instance Parasuram
severed the head of his mother Renuka. The famous Renuka lake attracting
unending streams of sight-seers and god seekers bears semblance to Mother
Renuka's physical frame and the crystal waters also look like a sleeping woman.
There are many places of religious interest in its surroundings and among them,.
the Gayatri mandir takes pride of place. The temple is recently built by one
ardent devotee called Mahatma Pyara Nanda Brahmachari. It is enshrining an
imposing statue of Panchamukhi Gayatri Devi - the Mother of Vedas and is about
six feet in height. The exquisite artistry of the sculptor- bends the heads of
the devotees in veneration and makes them oblivious oft he surroundings for
long. The temple houses many superbly sculptured marble images of Maha Vishnu.
Siva Brahma, Ganapathy, Indra etc. in well-built mini-shrines. There are
receiving due worship daily. Around this sacred shrine there are
decent asrams run by sadhus giving accommodation to the pilgrims visiting round
the year. The Parasuram lake and the temple located very near are heightening
its spiritual eminence to a commendable degree.

Himachal Pradesh, accessible by bus.
