This
famous Bhagawathi temple rose into prominence by a phenomenon that reads like a
fantasy arid exhibits the inscrutable mahima of god-men-Siddhipurushas. The
story goes that the place where the temple stands now was a pasture land used
for grazing the cattle by the neighbouring villages. The cow-herds were taking
the cattle of a rich Nair residing in the village called Konnangudi nearly 3 km.
off the present temple. It happened that once a stranger came and settled down
on this land doing regular worship to Srichakra, which he installed in his hut.
During evenings he used to mingle freely with the children and was demonstrating
certain uncommon powers by his yogic sakti. Innocent cowherds were drawn close
to him due to the miracles he vas producing to regale them. It became a daily
routine in course of time.
One
day he asked them to big a dig pit. They did. He entered into it and asked them to
close it with soil pouring over him.
