It
is an elegantly built shrine beautified with superb sculpture befitting the
royal status. Its maintenance is worthy of ardent emulation. It is a typical
Kerala temple possessing all indispensable parts. It has many hoary traditions
meriting instant emulation. Among them-gifting of a well - fed cow and fully
grown up elephant to the deity as Nadakuvaipu in case the ruling dignitary does
not perform the customary ceremony due for some year. It is in token of papa
parihara and akin to putting huge sums into the hundi of the presiding deity of
any temple. A grandiose festival is celebrated then with unprecedented pomp and
splendour. Ariyittu vizha falling in Jan-Feb is the yearly festival celebrated
with great eclat.
It
lies near Thirvanthapuram, accessible by four wheelers.
