Lying
in the close vicinity of Jabalpur, one of the large cities of Madhya Pradesh
that enjoyed the status of the capital of Moghuls for some time, this region
holds out attraction for both sight-seers and god-seekers as well. Among the
worth seeing monuments, temples of course take pride of place; besides forts and
dams. Behra ghat with steep rocks rising on both sides of a mile long gorge
through which river Narmada flows offers excellent opportunities for tourists in
particular. The gleaming lime-stone cliffs rising about a hundred feet against
the sumptuous growth of vast stretches of lush green forests enthrall anyone.
Amidst this extravagance of scenic beauty with a waterfall at the end of the
groge, there lies on high eminence a tenth century temple dedicated to Goddess
Durga. The visitor of any brand who visits this lovely region misses not
availing the darsan of the Mother. Being an ancient constriction its vastness
and imposing stature are visible for miles after and beckons everyone and fills
his soul with ethereal bliss. The Mother has
a passion for genuine bhakti and blesses the adorers liberally. Regular
worship is offered with due rituals. This region is a tourists paradise and with
this sublime shrine atop looks like a diamond set in a glittering gold ring.
It lies 23 km off Jabalpur,
accessible by bus.
