This famous ninth century temple is dedicated to Mother goddess Barahi revealing herself in
feminine form with the face of boar. It is a unique temple. Although in several
kshetras boar faced Mother goddess is worshipped, there is no separate
independent shrine for her exclusive worship. It is here lies her specialty and
that accounts for her popularity. And frequent visits by large number of people
throughout the year its another plus point. This is a well-built shrine with
vast courtyards and a high tower. Here is another unique feature. The goddess is
pot-bellied and holds a fish in one hand and a cup in the other. Due to grant of
liberal boons, she is attracting huge number of devotees. Regular worship is
offered with due devotion conforming to agamic tenets Periodical festivals too
are celebrated with great pomp and splendour.
It
lies on the way to Konark from Kakatapur, accessible by bus.
