The
title is a misnomer. The presiding deities are neither the self-same august
deities seated on the snow -capped Himalayas giving darsan to mortals for six
months and to Devas for another six months during the year, nor the shrine bears
resemblance to it. Out of extreme devotion for Kedareswar, the locals building
a temple for the deities Lord Siva and his spouse mother Parvati, named it Kedar
Gowri temple, although there are two other for Parvati affectionately called
Gowri. The campus is so vast and the dimension of halls are so spacious than it
is deemed an El Dorado to both tourists and theists. Pilgrims to this
metropolitan temple city include this in their itenerary programme and receive
the grace of these two deities installed in two separate independent shrines.
There is a conjecture that Lord Siva is Swamyambhu-self manifest and ardent
bhaktas built temple later for the Adidampatis. There is a story in circulation
that Mother Gowri dug the holy tank-kund with her own hands and invested it with
special merits, such as bathing in it or sipping its sacrosanct water endows one
with fortune and what is more beauty also. Furthermore, the water purges
of the sins of the bathers.
