Beliefs
and traditions are so fantastic and awe-some that they elude the grasp of
rationality and lab experiment. Some of them do appear so queer that the
sceptics sneer at their very mention, and start deriding with tirade of infinite
variety. Alas! they are oblivious of the fact that such beliefs alone are
cementing the faith of the adorers in the omnipotent God and the solace they
obtain is indescribable. And lo! such sons of the soil are forming the majority
and their infinite numerical strength cannot be clothed even in astronomical
language Belief alone gives relief and ensures bliss.
Among such quixotic
beliefs, the worship of Karni Nata at
Deshnok tops the list. She is the household deity of Rathors, the royal family
of Bikaner and they endowed the temple with costly things such as massive silver
gates worth millions. They are intricately carved and elegantly designed by the
experts. The facade of this white marble temple is breath taking. Its sculptured beautification detains devotees long. The temple's
and the archamurti wall panels too display exquisite crafts-manship. The bounty
of the royalty strikes the eye from the paraphernalia used for regular worship
The Mother gives darsan in standing posture, holding Trisul in the right hand
and severed head in the other. The walls of the sanctum are carved with the
figures of the rats.
