This
sleepy coastal village of Tirunelveli district comes to life as it were, once a year during September - October,
when the most
popular Dasara festival is celebrated on a grand scale. It is
on this occasion folk dances are arranged and artists from all parts of Tamil
Nadu participate and exhibit their talents. The vanue is Mutharamman temple. It is built in the
Dravidian architectural style and has vast courrtyards and majestic lower
beackoning devotees coming far and near for the darsan of the Mother. The icon is
quite imposing and famous for liberal grant of boons.
Mostly mass participate in the activites, although class and artists
contribute their mighty mite for celebration of this yearly festival on an
unprecedented scale. Daily puja is offered with due due devotional fervour. On account of its location on the
shore, its attraction for gay youth is more and normally the beach is found crowded with
tourists. It
is an excursion centre and the easy transport
facilities are making it rise in spiritual importance.

off Tiruchendur on Kanyakumari Road.
