The archeological Department also tried its hand to unearth the hidden icons by tilling and digging. They found nothing and so withdrew from the scene. But recently three idols identified as Kankali, Maha Durga and Simhasardul were found and they only are now venerated with great devotion. As they are fulfilling the desires of the votaries, their mahima captured the fancy and roused devotional instrincts of people living far off. Prototype of the image of this Kankali Mata are worshipped in many places like Lucknow, Calcutta and London too.
