As
an up-coming commercial town, next to that of Coimbatore in the south. Pollachi
has made an indelible mark in the history of Tamil Nadu. It claims many ancient
temples of great renown, carrying on religious activities with a fervour
unbeatable. Though there are several shrines for many gods and goddess at
several places in the big town, the temple for Lord Subrahmanya and Mother
Mariamman deserve indispensable mention.
The
temple built in the Dravidian architectural style. The carvings on the walls end
adorning the tower and pillars with rare sculptural pieces are its special
points and they are drawing aesthetes and theists as well throughout the year.
The Subrahmanya temple is treasuring up many rare ornament pieces. Mother
Mariamman has earned a unique name and her attraction lies in her warding off
her devout bhaktas from Satanic forces and dreadful diseases. Daily worship is
offer with great zeal. And the annual festival lures huge crowds overflowing the
temple complex and the town Illuminations and procession are its star attraction
and devotees come from far off places to redeem the vows taken with performance
of special rituals.
