It
is one of the Siva kshetras famous in legend and history. It is her lies the
Jaralinga and is submerged water, rising from a subterranean spring.
According to legend Mother Parvathi created water and installed linga amidst it
for adoration with a view to accomplishing her certain desires. On getting fulfilled, she wished that the worshippers too will realise all they aspire, if
they worship with devout prayers as she did to the Jalalinga. Gratified Mother
is continuing her prayers even today with the highly venerated tradition of the
priest offering worship putting on the dress of woman standing for the Mother. A
custom no where seen, says the priest. As she created water amidst which the
Linga was installed, it can be said without any trace of doubt that she is too
is powerful to create even the worlds fourteen in a trace. So, she is
reverentially called Akhilandeswari. This thirtha kshetra is called Varahapith
and occupied a pre-eminent place among Sakti-Peethas. The Jalalinga installed by
her is also called Amudalingam and the place Amudeeswaram. It place goes by
another name-Jambukeswaram, for lord Siva taking the forum linga is dwelling under Jambu tree to fulfill they desire of a great sage. Yet, there is another
name for these mokshapuri. And it is called Tiruvanaikkaval due to emancipationg
an elephant, who devotion pleased large most.
