 TIRUVANNAIKKAVAL - AKHILANDESWARI TEMPLE

There is an interesting legend that a certain pious Chola king while bathing in the pavana Cauvery last his pearl necklace when dipped. Realising it, he prayed to Lord to receive the same and addorn it for ever. As if an answer to his ardent wish, the same hara-chain fell over the head of Jalalinga, when the priest poured Cauvery water during abhishekam. He airing the news, the overjoyed king made many endowments.

The Mother's temple facing ease is very huge in dimensions and adorned with Chola style of sculpture. The icon is equity big and awe-inspiring, that lift the hands of the bhaktajanas as they come into her view. She is liberal in granting boons. Daily worship is carried on with great fervor. Among the annual festivals, the Pancha prakara puja a unique festival draws lakhs of devotees from far and near. Another special merit it embodies is the Srichakra receiving reverent worship was installed by Adi Sankaracharya. No devotee to this temple town misses visiting this holy shrine. Here both the shrines - Akhilandeswari temple and Jalalinga Mandir seem vying with each other to conferring bliss on the ardent theists.

It is accessible by city buses from the Trichy junction or bus stand.
