The
emergence of this koil needs introduction for proper comprehension. Its
hoary legend begins with the atrocities perpetrated by that asuradham-Surapadma after
obtaining potent
boons. A little flash back is essential at this stage.
Surapadma
the awful demos created a new hell in heaven and subjected the amarapuravasis to
innumerable and insurmountable troubles besides unending problems given to the pious innocent on
earth. When the afflicted prayed to Lord Mahavishnu for intervention he advised that none but the
valorous son of Gowri Shankar could bring them relief by killing that ruthless.
Surapadma and his brother Taraka and Singamukha, Devendra manged get Lord Siva
united in wedlock with Parvathi with the assistance of Manmatha and the son
Shanmuga born to
them embarked upon military campaign against Surapadma. AIthough an exceptional
danava blessed with special boons, Lord Shanmuga ably and superbly guided his
army in
the operations, proving more than a match to the danavas front the start to finish and
at last Lord Shanmuga won the battle. The battle field presented a horrible
sight with the dead and dying. Lord Siva the omni-compassionate descended on the scene fit the
robes
of doctor and succored help.
