The district Gharwal in Uttar Pradesh is infinitely famous for ancient temples
built for all denominations of Hindu divinities. Besides these mandirs, the all
purifying and ever-flowing rivers like Ganga, Yamuna etc.. take their birth and
are sanctifying the land from time immemorial. The name Gharwal conjures up a
colourful picture of Hindu temples with saffron flags fluttering over them.
This
sacred Devi spot lies on the holy banks of Saraswati, flowing near Mandakini, a
tributary of Ganges. Here are found three murtis-Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati and
Mahakali, the Kriyasakti, Jnanasakti and Ichchasakti aspects of the
Omkaraswarupini Adiparasakti. These Devis are ardently worshipped by the yatris
going to the world renowned Kedarnath temple. There is a famous thirtha in which
yatris invariably bathe before going further towards Kedarnath and it goes by
the name Narayanakoti thirtha. So the entire zone is dotted with holy places
inviting indispensable visitation from every visitor. Many rulers like Maharaj
of Dharbhanga lured by the special sanctity of this area contributed their mite
in endowing temples with yantras and conducting yagnas. There is a mutt engaged
in preaching and doing meditation throughout. Hence this place is occupying a coverable
place in Uttarkhand.
It
lies on the way to Kedarnath temple, accessible by bus and train journey upto
Rishikesh.
