  VARANASI - DURGA MANDIR

This renowned holy Triputi-with Daivam, Kshetram and Thirtham raised the glory of the ancient city and is luring pilgrims from time immemorial. It is enshring in its bounds several temples dedicated to all denominations of gods and goddesses of Hindu pantheon. This sacred shrine installed with Mother Durga was built in Nagara architectural style in the eighteenth century. Its the main spire rising over several similar spires around looks extremely superb and feasts the eyes with its beauty and divinity. Its uniqueness lies in the building of five small sikharas at their base that converge into one at the top. And it has been interpreted, rightly too, that it is symbolising this world made of five elements and ultimately into Brahma, the Supreme Reality. It is largely visited both by locals and pilgrims round the year. On account of large number of monkeys moving about freely and causing menace to the visitors, it is popular as Monkey Temple. Being accessible by all kinds of vehicles, devotees throng and overflow its compound every day particularly in mornings and evenings. Regular worship is offered with great devotional fervor. Annual festivals lure lakhs of devotees who celebrated them with great pomp and splendour.

It lies within the city limits and 8 km off Viswanth Mandir, accessible by all kinds of vehicles.
