A
mere mention of Jhansi conjures up fantastic scenes of heroic battle fought
against the mighty British by Rani Lakshmi Bai, the princess of a petty
principality. Around this historic city, there lie the remains of many
splendid-shrines dedicated to almost all deities of Hindu Pantheon. Among those
renovated later, two temples stand out prominent and are receiving ardent
worship. The Kali temple located near Sainyar deserves first mention. Mother
Kali was the supreme goddess here revered by class and mass. The ruling princes
held her in highest veneration and they sought her blessings during peace and
crisis. The temple although daubed with modernity due to renovation, is
retaining its antiquity in traditions, decorations and the like. Its vast
courtyards are always crowded reflecting her popularity and easy accessibility
on account of lavish grant of boons. The Mother decorated sumptuously with
colourful silks and dazzling diamonds elevates the seekers by her pleasant form.

veneration and the periodical festivals on a grand scale befitting the status of
a historic city.
