CHEJERLA - KAPOTEESWARA AALAYAM

The archamurti is Sivalinga and it has two big holes on the top. Even today bad odor of flesh and blood emanates after Abhisheka. Further the Abhishek jala goes into an unknown underground pit. Above all the Kapotalinga resembles the headless body of a human. Can God's ways are so easy to comprehend ? Would not with such sports alone He keeps the Bhaktakoti bound to Dharma?

There are many niches enshrining several deities, and this Aalaya is built with a harmonious blend of Nagara, Vesara and Dravida styles of architecture. Another colorful feather ! Archeologists unanimously declared that it is the first stone - built - Aalaya of the entire Bharat.

This lies in Chejerla town, 25 km off Narasaraopet in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.
