It is
a reputed Harihara Kshetra, housing holy shrines for almost all
Hindu gods, besides Jain Thirthankars and Bouddha Pravaktas. Of all
the places of worship here, priority goes to Lingaraj temple, one of
the most finest temples built in the North Indian Nagara style. It
may not be an exaggeration, if said that it is one of the best built
Siva mandir of huge dimensions extant of our Punya Bharat. In size,
shape and structure ! Architecturally speaking, it stands out as the
most superb type of temple enshrining a big Sivalinga that the
ancient India has bequeathed to us. It has peers only in the deep
south, like the Brihadeeswaraalayam, Ramalingeswaraalayam etc. to
mention a few.
