THE
ARCHAMURTI
The
archamurti is worshipped as Mayureswar, due to his' visiting the place on his
mount Mayura - Peacock to destroy the lokakantaka rakshasadamas, like Sindhu and
Kamalasur. The image of Mayureswar adored here is very huge. It is of the
Swayambh4 type, without much craftsmanship, but extremely grand to look, at. It
is in sitting posture with trunk turning left. Diamonds are embedded in the
navel and eyes. A metal image of Nagaraj adorns the head. The excellent finish
and sheen are quite enticing and every devotee drinks in the nectarine beauty of
the Lord to his soulful and desires to stand enjoying the sight long. The
scriptural account adorns him with four arms holding amkush and pasa in upper
arms while the lower right resting on the knee and the left holding modak. He is
flanked by Siddhi and Buddhi on his left and right sides. And there are both
Mushaka and Mayura, his vahanas in front. According to the local tradition, this
is the same idol installed by the Pandavas in the august presence of Lord
Krishna under the guidance of Vyasa in the Dwaparayuga, when they visited this
place after the Kurukshetra war. The Mulavirat installed by Brahma now lies in a
small, but strong copper sheeted cell. So both these adorable images are placed
at one place. The Lord was worshippers by Parasuram too. There are adorable
trees, like Sami and Bilva on the eastern side, and Tharti called Kalpavriksha
to the west of the main mandir. Devotees sit under thorn and meditate for bliss
and emancipation.
