This is the biggest, ancient; well-built Vinayak temple
extant in Tamil Nadu, enshrining a big sized black granite
Vinayaka vigraha of about twenty feet in height. Built in the
Dravidian architectural style, the temple possesses vast
courtyards, spacious mandaps, imposing towers and superb
sculptural pieces adorning walls and mini-shrines. The
temple Pushkarini lying outside the compound is quite extensive, and with its clear
water it is sewing the temple and the visitors to a commendable degree.
The garbha griha is very big and the masterly sculptured archamurti
with its fine polish and excellent finish raises the hands of the devotees at
first sight itself. The agamic worship is offered with utmost devotion. Several
mandaps are installed with the most adorable
deities, like Muruga, Parvathi etc. Though lying in 'a remote village, the
temple has the biggest Vinayaka of the entire state and luring devotees round
the year. Several devotional activities are conducted throughout the year. This
is preferred for the celebration of auspicious events, like Shastabhdi, Vivah
muhurthas etc.
It
is about 15 km off Karaikudi on Karaikudi - Dindigul Highway, accessible-by bus.
