This highly renowned and immensely popular Saiva kshetra enshrining
Golingeswara swamy, a benefaction by Gunaga Vijayaditya of Vengai
Chalukyas is also housing a grand shrine for Subrahmanyaswamy extremely
popular as Subbahayani gudi. Its popularity is primarily due to a sacred anthill with a serpent deemed the living manifestation of
Subrahmanya. It is
visited mostly by the barren couple, who offer special worship with several
rituals. Barren mothers wearing special type of sarees worship the ant-hill
devoutly and sleep in the temple for one full night. They observe fast the
whole day and after second worship go home with full and sure hope of
becoming mothers. Their hopes are not blasted, nor do they ever come to the
temple again on that score. Does not belief give relief? Does genuine prayer
ever remain unfulfilled? Additionally, patients of ear-ache also turn in large
numbers to worship Lord Subbaraya and go home happily relieved of their
harassing ache. This Subrahmanya shrine though only an integral part of
Golingeswaraswamy is winning colourful feathers of the main temple. True
son raises the glory of the parents always. The archamurti
Golingeswaraswamy is also very powerful and has been blessing devotees to
their satisfaction.
It is 12 km off Ramachandrapuram in East Godavari district of
Andhra Pradesh and accessible by bus.
