MOPIDEVI
- VALLI DEVASENA SAMETHA SUBRAHMANYA AALAYAM |
|
Skandapurana embodies an elaborate account of the glory of this
famous kshetra, while dealing with the unprecedented sacredness of river
Krishna and the temples built on its banks. This temple was built by
Agasthya maharishi first and was endowed liberally by the princes of great
fame. Another uniqueness observable here is - river Krishna is flowing in the
northern direction. According to another belief current in these parts Lord
Subrahmanya directed one of the ardent devotees by name Parvathalu in a
dream to build a temple for him and he had been abiding in the form of Linga
in an ant-hill there. At once, the pious devotee dug out the ant-hill and found
to his fortune a grand linga with unusual sheen and dazzling polish. He built a
temple with public donations in the Dravidian' style of architecture. It is
imposing in construction and vast in dimensions. The archamurti
Subrahmanya swamy flanked by his dear spouses Valli and Devasena has
earned a great name for instant accessibility and exceeding compassion. It is
said that all the diseases of eyes are cured with a forty-day-vrata. And lo! no
medical aid is necessary thereafter. There is a big ant-hill in the campus
inhabited by divine serpents and fulfil .the designs of bhaktas if ardent
worship is offered. On account of several miraculous occurrences taking place in
the lives of pious bhaktas, it is being visited by a steady stream of devotees
throughout the year. Daily worship is offered with devotion due and periodical
festivals with great pomp and splendour.
