Among the temples and Mutts that have come up in recent years,
first mention must be made to Subrahmanya swamy temple, situated on the
other part of Indrakiladri accessible from Kothapet, in the One Town of
Vijayawada. This carved out a enviable career in a short span of three
decades. Its history and divinity are quite odd and highly fascinating. It
happened - a pious devotee by name lddhipalli Guruvula Das, a great devotee
of Subrahmanya used to offer Surya namaskars to Sun-god everyday after
ablutions. One day to his good fortune, Lord Subrahmanya appeared to him
in his serpent form. He felt exhiliated. On the sixth day of this rare fortune, he
was ordered in a dream to build a temple here, and he could solicit help from
the local devotees. He was advised by them when consulted to visit the
Murugan Temples in Tamil Nadu and select one as model for the prospective
shrine.
After visiting Palani, Tiruchendur, Swamimalai, Palamudircholai,
Tiruparankundram and Tiruttani, the renowned Arupadai Veedus of Subrahmanya, luring lacs of devotees throughout, he selected Tiruttani temple
and its deities - Sri Valli Devasena sametha Subrahmanya as the model and
started construction. Luckily he hit upon an invaluable hidden treasure the
icon of Balasubrahmanya and some earthern lamps, while digging operations
were carried on. His cup of happiness overflowed.
