This
is a unique Muruga kshetra with a fantastic and rare traditions. And was
visited by renowned Saivate pravaktas in addition to inspiring poets and
composers, who eulogized the glory of this kshetra in their immortal poetry.
According to sthalapurana, the archamurti was Swayamvyakta and hidden among the
creepers surrounded by rocks and impenetrable shurbs. When found out its
location by accident, devout theists came forward to install it in a befitting
shrine. Soon pious bhaktas entered the arena and caused a beautiful temple built
with public donations in several forms. After installation, some three hundred
years back, the archamurti revealed his glory through miracles occurred in the
live, of ardent devotees. The temple emerged as a pilgrim centre, and Muruga as
Pratyaksha daivam in a matter of few decades. Moreover it is steadily and
gradually rising in spiritual importance to the jealousy of many such hill
temples. Among the odd and awe-some traditions introduced here is-the darsan of
Murugan made available in three different and distinct forms on three auspicious
occasions of the day. The consummate art of decorating the image of archamurti
as child - Bala Muruga in the mornings, youthful charming Kumara in the noon
time, and aged Muruga during evenings indeed merits highest veneration. And in
this aspect it is comparable to Lord Maheswar at Vaikom in Kerala It is indeed a
grand feast which the devotees enjoy and cherish for ever. And lo! it beckons
frequent visits for soulful adoration and eyeful darsan. This uniqueness is
drawing an unending streams of devotees throughout the year. Agamic worship is
offered and annual festival are celebrated with due pomp.
