This temple has a fantastic legend revealing the inimitable boyhood
sports of Muruga and their aftermath. According to the version of temple
priest, once Bala Muruga had the rare occasion of playing a practical joke on
Brahma, the Lord of Creation. During a casual meeting, he asked Brahma to
explain the meaning of Pranava. When Brahma fumbled to give its connotation
extempore, Murugan imprisoned Brahma at once. In addition, he took over the
charge of creation assuming four faces as that of the Creator. That unearthly
inexplicable charm of the episode is represented in the temple here. It is a big
temple with spacious courtyards and grand tower with many mini-shrines. It
is in the garbhagriha, a superbly sculptured image of Subrahmanya with four
faces and twelve hands in sitting posture is installed and it is extremely
enchanting and lifts the souls at first sight itself. Above all, the Lord has a
passion of genuine bhakti and fulfills their desires instantly to their
contentment. Hence claims numerous bhaktas. Regular and periodical festivals
are celebrated with great pomp and splendour. The weaving community and
the merchant families spend huge amount during festivals luring huge crowds.
It is 10 km off Dindugul on. Madras-Madurai highway, accessible by
