This is a hill
temple renowned for the curing of snake bite. Atop the hill, in the garbhagriha,
a charming archamurti is installed, and at a little lower to the sannidhi there
are two sannidhis for Valli and Devasena. The icons are specimens of fine
artistry, and are quite attractive. On the way up hill, there is a small but
well-built sannidhi enshrining the image of Subbarayar, another popular name for
Murugan. It acquired a very great fame and is seen always crowded, due to the
fact that the victims of snake bite are cured with the abundant compassion of
this Lord. Wailing victims return home smiling, cured of the poison effects.
Moreover, it is preferred for the celebration of weddings by certain castes in
the locality. So always crowded. There are many images of the most adorable
deities, like Siva, Murugan and Idumban installed in a fine mini-shrines
adjoining the temple. They are adored with equal religious fervour. Annual
festivals draw lakes of devotees.
It lies 2 kms off
Uthukuzhi near Tirunelveli of Tamilnadu, accessible by bus.
