KANCHAMALAI - BALAMURUGAN TEMPLE

Yet this is another benefaction made by a Siddhar whose soul force won the hearts of devout bhaktas, and who loosened their purse strings ungrudgingly and untiringly for this mahatkarya There is an asram and small shrine even today at the foot of the hill, where dwelt that evolved soul carrying on devotional activities His piety and integrity drew pious bhaktas to his heart, and when upon the temple building activities, pious public lent support in several ways. Soon a temple atop the hill was built for Muruga, and a marvellously sculptured Balamurugan's icon was, installed with due ritualistic worship. The Moolavar faces west whereas Vinayakar in the same temple installed faces east. There is another small shrine, where ' Vel ' the potent weapon of Muruga is receiving daily worship. It is a well-built modern temple having all conveniences. On the way to the temple, there are sacred Vepa and Ragi trees, under which images of serpent gods a installed and are adored devoutly. The Lord grants boons liberals to the deserving pious devotees. Regular worship and annual festivals are celebrated with great fanfare.

It is 20 kms off salem, a famous town in tamilnadu, accessible by bus.
