This is one of the ancient Saiva kshetras of unparalleled spiritual
significance and legendary importance. According to sthalapurana, it is one of
the five hills deemed exceedingly sacred and it is here lord Siva in the
Ardhanareeswara form is demonstrating to the world that female is as important
as male
Sri
Sakthi is to be adored with great veneration. The hill also represents this
universal truth exhibiting two colours - red and yellow. It is the scene of
action, where Adisesha and Vayu tried their strength to proving their relative
powers for superiority. There are mandaps here with exquisitely sculptured
pillars bearing the carvings of those, who served and were liberated. Another
special plus point it claims is-the existence of 60 steps called Satyapadi,
means thereby, step of truth and are held very potent. Standing on the last step
- the 60th step going by the name of Arubhadarn padi none dares speaking lie, or
denying the crime committed. One's own revelation or commission passes for the
final word as binding as the judge's verdict. A unique phenomenon to be admired.
Praising
its inherent power, an Englishman built a mandap for the benefit of conducting
cases. Of the awe-some features of this kshetra is - the Nandi in standing
posture. The sitting Nandi was so swept off by the eulogy sung by a Siva bhakta,
that it stood up and listened to it with rapt attention. And in oblivion it
forget to take its normal sitting posture. So it is now in standing position;
nowhere such representation in any temple is found in India and abroad.
