Among
those very few, there is a lone, holy shrine at Arasavilli, 3 km off
Srikakulam, the District Head Quarters town of the same name. The
historicity of this ancient temple through dates back to early
Eastern Kalingas, only from 1788 AD its authentic data begins with
the patronage of a philanthropist by name Elamanchill pullaji, who
renovated and installed several deities along with the icon of Indra
in it. It is since then, its importance is on the ascendancy, and
people are thronging for relief from diseases particularly those of
leprosy, heart diseases and blindness. One can see early in the
mornings everyday, hundreds of ailing devotees doing Suryanamaskars
and offering prayers. And to ! returning home with overflowing joy
and contentment. Hence it acquired the name of Harshavalli, meaning
thereby a place that gives happiness, which in course of time became
Arasavilli.
