According
to legends it was built by Devendra under extraordinary
circumstances. It happened--once he went to kailas for the darsan of
Lord without prior appointment. Nandi, keeping guard the entrance
did not permit and insulted him, when the latter displayed his
powers. Under the heavy burden of humiliation he fell down and
swooned on his way back home. There appeared then, the Sun God-Karmasakshi
and consoled his timely. His mental anguish vanished forthwith. To
perpentuate his gesture, he built a temple here. The icon of the
Sun-God is made of black granite and measures 6 feet in height, 3
feet in breadth and a feet and a half in thickness.
