BASARA

This square shaped shrine lying between two hills is supposed to have been built by Adikavi Valmiki maharshi. Brahmandapurana records that this Jnanasaraswati icon now worshipped was installed by him before commencing his magnum opus-the Ramayana. And Lord Vinayaka is it said, is entitling agrapuja due to his adoration to her and her anugrah.

The icon of Lakhsmi is also installed in the grabhagriha along with Jnanasarada. The Valmiki image installed in the courtyard is an object of great craze for the bhaktas. It is believed that this august Jnanasaraswati blesses the mute with the faculty of speech and cures all diseases, if soulful prayers are offered. People turn up in large numbers with their kids for Vidyarambha here deeming it a great auspicious beginning.

The annual festivals like Devinavaratri celebrations, Dattatreya Jayanti and Mahasivaratri are the star attractions here. Vasanthapanchami festival too draws large crowds. A miss not shrine of universal importance.
