When
their soulful earnest petition for instant assistance was turned
down, their fears of impending calamity assumed enormous
proportions. To add to their misery, the sky was overcast with dark
clouds and the devastating effects of the raging cyclone were
staring into their eyes.
Filling
several breaches could not undertaken by people, nor their resources
were enough for each work. Doubts of their survival, safety
of their property in goods and crops began thrusting their weight on
their hearts. Signs of despair went up. And with moistened eyes and
folded hands they looked up to heaven and prayed for Sri Rama's
timely intervention. The collector though ridiculed the people, his
duty conscience directed him to the tank bund for survey.
