Moodabidri
- Sri Venkataramana Devalaya
This famous Jain kshetra possesses many Vaishnavate and Sakteya shrines,
establishing the fact that though Jainism with lavish royal patronage swallowed
the land's sanathana dharma, it did not assimilate it completely, nor exercised
its domination for ever. This Venkataramanaswamy Aalayam built in the South
Indian architectural style consists of all parts and is carrying on the
devotional activities both daily and annually with unparalleled religious fervor,
thereby proving that Hinduism is ajeya and ajaramara. Of course, its glory was
obscured for some time, yet its pull is extremely great and so huge crowds
everyday. There is another ancient temple dedicated to Gopala Krishna though met
with the same fate as that of Venkataramanaswamy temple during Jain
regime, it is preserving its former glory with the continuance of all the
nityanaimithika activities.
It
is 35 km off Mangalore, one of the premier towns in the South Canara
district of Karnataka, enjoying conveyance facilities from nearby towns.
