Guruvayur
- Sri Venkatachalpathi Ambalam
Guruvayur,
renowned as Dwaraka of the Dakshinapatha, besides housing the internationally
famous Krishna temple, the Bhooloka Valkunta of Keralites is accommodating a few
temples dedicated to the highly revered gods, like Lord Siva, Venkatachalapathy,
Yarthasarathy etc. Of these, the Venkataehalapathy shrine lying at a distance of
half a kilometer to the main Krishna Mandir is attracting Balaji bhaktas coming
from afar. 1t is a typical Kerala temple with tiled roof sans any tower of
imposing dimension. The courtyards are wide and possessing stone deepasthamabhas
and mini-shrines installed with adorable gods. It is neatly maintained,
and the prayer services are carried on according to agamas. The lift-size
granite status of Lord Venkateswara in standing posture with tripundram on the
forehead gives darsan and lifts the souls. Though bereft of dazzling jewels and
costly paraphernalia as found in the Tirumala temple, its simplicity coupled
with sublimity pleases the eye. Due to bearing striking resemblance to Tirumala
Balaji in size, shape and enchanting sheen, it is, a much sought-after temple
visited by yatris and locals. Agamic worship is offered everyday and the
periodic festivals are celebrated on a grand scale.
It is in
Guruvayvr, accessible by walk from the main Krishna temple.
