| It is
inevitable for everyone to act according to his nature and therefore inaction is futile
and leads to consequences worse than what is sought to be avoided. Entrenched in egoism, thou thinkest: "I will not fight"; to no purpose is thy determination; nature will constrain thee. Oh son of Kunti! that which from delusion thou desirest not to do, even that helplessly thou wilt per form impelled by thy nature. -Gita XVIII-60 Freedom lies in the effort to avoid passion and hatred and giving the right shape to what issues from the urge of one’s own nature. Do therefore the work that falls to your share with detachment, and find joy in sacrificing your own pleasure for the advantage of others. Do not try to find peace in inaction and confuse it with sanyaasa. Renunciation or sanyaasa consists in the detachment with which one acts and not in inaction. When one’s nature maintains internally the urge for action, as it must, it is detachment, not abstinence, ‘hat is called for. Inaction with the urge alive inside leads only to hypocrisy. |
