When the two were alone, Afzal Khan tried to crush Shivaii in a strong embrace. Shivaji, who had come prepared, could not be crushed as he had put on a steel coat under his usual robe. escape. He hid in a sweet-meat basket. When the servants carried it out he too got out of the prison.

After coming out, he dressed himself like a sanyasi, and safely returned to Poona.
