| For a long time
the couple had no children. So they prayed to God. God said: "I shall be born as your child." Accordingly a son was born to them. However, unlike other children, this child neither cried nor kicked its limbs, not even drank milk after birth. It just lay silent with closed eyes. But a halo of light surrounded the child. Not knowing what to do, the parents took the child to the temple of Vishnu at Tirunagari. They named the child Maran. This word in Tamil means, an abnormal child. They put the child in a golden cradle and hung it on the branches of the holy tamarind tree near the temple and prayed. Even today that tree is there. People worship it. |
