The parents sat there day and night with the child praying. As days went on, The child did not grow. They consoled themselves thus: "We perhaps must have dome some wrong in our former life. So God has punished us with this child."

They prayed to God for forgiveness.

For sixteen years Maran lay there in the cradle without even once eating or even opening his eyes. Ca an ordinary child live like that?

Near Tirunagari is another village called Tirukkolur. At that place lived a saint called Madhura kavi. He was also Alvar. He sang sweet hymns about God.

Once he went on a pilgrimage to Ayodhya. He also sang about the deities at the different shrines.
