| Aurobindo
became a different man after he came out of the Alipore jail. Politics no more interested
him. He became spiritual. His inner voice asked him to go to Pondicherry and in 1910 he went there and stayed till his death. At Pondicherry many disciples gathered around him. An ashrama rose where he did intense tapas. And he became perfect in it. He called his system of yoga Integral Yoga. Today that ashrama is a very big institution and has many sadhakas there. Sri Aurobindo passed away in 1950 and today he is venerated as a modern rishi. A French lady known as the Mother who was closely associated with Sri Aurobindo became the head of the institution. She is also no more now. Aurobindo wrote many books. Of these the "Essays on the Gita" and "Life Divine" are the most famous ones. People all over the world read and benefit by them. |
