YOGA ASANAS |
|
Just as a flame
will burn steadily when there is no wind, so also the mind will stay on God by practising
yoga.
The first step of yoga asks the student to be moderate in his food and other habits. He
should sleep neither too long nor too little. The second step tells him to be
disciplined in all he does. The third step, namely, asanas help him to strengthen his
physical body and mind.
We shall study in this lesson only the subject of asanas which is the third step in the
practice of yoga.
The practice of asanas is sometimes called Hata Yoga or Raja Yoga. Hata means doing a
thing with great effort. Raja means best.
A well-known book on yoga asanas is Hatayoga Pradipika. There are books on the subject
written by other rishis too.
According to all of them, yoga asanas purify the body. They remove diseases. |
