AMARAVATI |
|
There
is evidence to show that at Amara- vati there was a flourishing Vidyapitha where students
from China, Japan, Tibet, Slam and Ceylon were studying. Amaravati can be reached
either by bus from Guntur or by steam launch from Vijayawada across the river Krishna that
is only twenty miles away.
There are excellent choultries, in addition to a travelers bungalow, for the
conve- nience of pilgrims, with facilities of boarding and lodging.
The main festivals in the temple are the Mahashivaratri, which comes in the Magha
Bahula Dasami and the Navaratri and the Kalyana Utsavas.
Amaravati is thus an important Kshetra situated at a
particularly sacred spot of the holy river Krishna and is a consecrated place of worship,
of importance to both Buddhism and Hinduism. |
