THE FIERCE LORD OF ETTUMANUR |

| According to an
inscription on the base of the central shrine the repairs to the present temple were be in
the year 1542 and the consecration ceremony performed in 1645. Indeed the central shrine
stands out for wall carving, a major art in Kerala. There are admirable pieces of wood
sculpture, the whole of the Ramayana story is carved with striking beauty as also scenes
from Santanagopala, Krishnaleela and Bhagavata.
