THE FIERCE LORD OF ETTUMANUR

According to another version, Khara had a disciple, known as Pingalan. 'At the and of his Gurukula. Education of the disciple wanted to give Khara a good amount byway of Gurudakshina. But he was penniless. Yet he pestered his Guru as to how much he should give him as dakshina. The Guru became angry and said: "Ten thousand crores of gold coins." When Pingalan could not afford even a hundred pieces how could he find such a large amount?

Intense Penance

Seeing the predicament of his disciple, the Guru decided that they both would undertake intense penance to propitiate the Gods. This they did at Harina dweep. First Mahavishnu appeared before them. As per their request Bhagawan granted them all the ton thousand crores Of gold coins. Then Siva appeared, before them. With the gold coins he got, Khara performed abhisheka on Siva-kanakabhisheka. Immensely pleased, Siva gave them another ten thousand crores of gold coins. With this they Performed abhisheka to Mahavishnu also. After his duty fulfilled Pingalan took leave of his master and left the place.
