IDENTIFICATION AND CHRONOLOGY OF

bases his account on the authorities of Ibn Zafir, Sibt Ibnu'l-Jawzi and Ibnu'l-Athir. All
these chroniclers are non- contemporary and for their sourcehave drawn mostly from
as-Sabi's Dhail which contains in extenso the letters of victory written by the Sultan to
the Caliph. There isno impersonal and unbiased authority to testify to these descriptions.
In the nature of the case, it is quite possible that the Sultan may have occasionally
distorted facts in order to illustrate or emphasize some vice or virtue. Divorced from
historical precision, such accounts are not wholly reliable. |
