But Nandi would not
forgive Garuda who had insulted his master. Then Siva rebuked Nandi and advised him that
wisdom should not give way to anger. At this Nandi got pacified and he repented for his
hasty action and wanted to do atonement for the sin he had committed. He decided to do
penance but was in difficulty to choose the place for doing the penance. Siva suggested to
him the place of Pakshi Teertham. Though the legend
may seem to be a fiction to some, the fact remains that the two kites have been visiting
the temple at mid-day for centuries. Sometimes facts are stranger than fiction. Some Dutch
people visited the temple in the 17th century and their signatures, can be seen engraved
on the pillars of the Mandapa on the hill. |
