There
are numerous episodes that occurred on the banks of this river and
imbued with bhaktirasa. As a matter of fact, the river Krishna with
its abundant holy water has been making the citizens of this
Vijayapuri immensely distinguished and extensively reputed in every
realm of human action. Illustrious persons were born here to uphold
the torch of Dharma burning every bright. As if to replenish the
devotional fervour, the
river Krishna swells and flows to unprecedented heights once in
every 12 years, called Krishna pushkaram, when Brihaspathi enters
kanyarasi. People in lacs visit and bathe in the sacred waters for
making lives blissful. Tradition says that the thirty-three crore
devatas including the Trio bathe in it, in addition to abiding in it
during this period. And is auspicious for offering pindas to the
manes and it accrues merit equal to bathing in all the sacred
rivers. And it is believed that there lie many famous thirthams,
like Chakra, Mukti, Sankha, Narasimha, Trisula, Indra and Rishi in
the river itself. Their presence is heightening its potency. Hence
the saying what with a mere look at the water, sins take to flight.
And a bath makes one sin-proof. Sipping exhilarates and remembering
emancipates.
